You Scheduled Your Family Session, And Now You're Freaking Out!

You just completed the hardest step of scheduling your session. And, now you are experiencing the chaos of emotions of figuring out how to get everyone together with no bickering, And all dressed to impress. What colors to wear, where are we going to take these, how long are these session? I know, I have been there with my own family. So, I rounded up a few frequently asked questions I have previously received to help you with this upcoming session.

My job is to enhance your philosophy of style. I’ll use a variety of lenses to get full length, mid-length and close-ups. I welcome your ideas for location and I have a few favorites I can recommend. If this is your first solo shoot, it might feel a little awkward. So, I’ll take a few “icebreakers” just to get you warmed up. I want you to be relaxed in your photos, so we like to joke around with you and make it fun.

Getting Ready For Your Senior Portrait Session is Half The Fun!

First, I will work with you to choose a style that suits your personality, whether you prefer serious, glamorous, starlet, trendy, fashion diva or casual. With so many looks to choose from, I find that building an exclusive Pinterest board is a helpful way to discover your favorite styles. To help me understand you better, I will ask you to fill out a questionnaire about yourself. This helps me get to know you and craft a session that is unique to you. Are you simple and sophisticated or do you love bold looks? Let me know, and I will help you to create a fashion ensemble that best reflects your true self.

This young lady was one of the first I met when my little family first moved into Fresno. We became her 13-year old Sunday School teachers. We learned she was big into swimming... Not surprising here in the Central Valley. Aquatics is HUGE here. She became our regular baby-sitter. And, I knew I wanted to capture her FUN personality! That's where I come in. I want to make your session day fun and not so stressful. Through a pre-consult, we can discuss and figure out all of the logistics. We can walk through this together. I love to play, and joke, in order to get truly authentic emotions. If your smile reaches your eyes, I know I've done my job.

This family has been my biggest repeat "clients." Well, to be completely honest, this is my brother's family, and they really didn't have much of a choice. I practiced my photography skills on this family since 2007. I started doing their family portraits the Christmas after their youngest son was born. They have helped me to grow, to learn, and to shape my technique over the years. Their youngest son is now 10 years old. My sister-in-law often jokes that I am the only one who can get their boys to smile and catch it. They are getting close to that age now, though, where they suffer #photographersfamilysyndrome.

Tips for Selecting Your Wardrobe

A lot of people ask what they should wear to their photo session? After all, these photographs will become a staple in your family frames and albums for years to come. Choosing timeless, yet appropriate attire will lend to the positive outcome of your photo shoot. If it’s an indoor session, choosing soft, warm colors can be very pleasing to the lens. Outdoors, you can opt for bolder colors, earth tones or contrasting, such as big stripes paired with a solid color. Pinstripes or small dots generally do not photography well. Wearing accessories can add a nice touch, but try to avoid accessories that are too big as they may overshadow your face.
